Every Maine Street Coons kitten is matched with care

Finding the right kitten is about more than color, gender, or place in line.

Our thoughtful, high-touch placement process gives us time to know both our kittens and our families—so every match is made with temperament, lifestyle, preferences, and chemistry in mind. Because our kittens are carefully planned and always in demand, joining our waitlist is the first step toward bringing one home.

Step One: Join the Waitlist

Your journey begins with an application.

Complete our online application to tell us about your family, lifestyle, other pets, and what you hope to find in a Maine Coon companion.

If we believe Maine Street Coons may be the right fit, we will schedule a personal discovery call. This gives us the opportunity to get to know one another, answer questions, and make sure our approach and expectations align.

Approved families are then invited to join our waitlist.

STEP TWO: WAIT WITH CONFIDENCE

Good things are worth waiting for.

Our average wait is approximately six to nine months, although timing varies based on litter plans, nature, and your preferences.

While you wait, you will not be left wondering what comes next. We stay in touch with personalized updates and let you know when an anticipated litter may align with what you are hoping for.

Before a litter arrives, families who may be a match receive advance notice based on expected timing, colors, and other preferences.

Step THREE: Watch your litter grow

The waiting becomes part of the story.

When kittens arrive, families being considered for that litter receive a birth announcement with the number of kittens, genders, colors, and patterns.

From there, you will watch them grow with us.

During the early weeks, we share group photos and updates as the kittens grow from fragile neonates to curious wobbly toddlers.

As their personalities begin to emerge, you will receive individual photos, videos, and introductions, along with updates following their veterinary visits.

You will get to know the litter.

We will get to know each kitten.

And all the while, we will be thinking about the match.

STEP FOUR: MEET YOUR JUST-RIGHT KITTEN

This is where everything comes together.

Following the kittens’ second veterinary visit, we consider everything we have learned about them—and everything we know about you.

Temperament. Confidence. Energy level. Family dynamics. Other pets. Lifestyle. Preferences. Chemistry.

Kittens retained for the future of our breeding program are selected first. Then, working through our waitlist, we personally recommend the kitten we believe is the best fit for each family.

This is not a first-come, first-served selection process. It is a thoughtful match built over time.

And more often than not, our families tell us the same thing:

You knew exactly which kitten was meant for us.

Step FIVE: prepare for homecoming

Once the match is made, the countdown begins.

Your kitten agreement and $1,000 holding fee are due by 10 AM  the following day. This allows us to continue the matching process thoughtfully for every family.

You will then receive confirmation of your kitten’s homecoming date and appointment time, along with guidance to help you prepare.

Your kitten will remain with us until approximately 14 weeks of age, giving them important much needed time with their mother, littermates, and our family as they continue to grow in confidence, practice good manners, and become fully prepared for life in yours.

During these final weeks, updates become more personal. You will continue to receive photos and videos of your kitten as we prepare them—and you—for the transition ahead.

Your kitten’s homecoming package will be prepared with thoughtfully selected essentials to make the transition easier—including familiar food, top-tier grooming tools, kitten shampoo, toys, a familiar-scented lap quilt, and a personalized folder containing important records and information.

STEP six: welcome your kitten home

At approximately 14 weeks old, the day you have been waiting for finally arrives.

Before homecoming, you will activate your kitten’s complimentary 30 days of Trupanion coverage and complete any remaining paperwork. The final balance is due according to the terms of your kitten agreement.

Your private homecoming appointment lasts approximately 45 minutes, giving us time to review veterinary records, registration, insurance, feeding, grooming, transition guidance, and any final questions.

Then comes the moment we have all been preparing for:

You take your kitten home.

Our role does not end there. We remain available throughout your cat’s life for questions, guidance, and support.

Because once a kitten is born at Maine Street Coons, we will always care what happens next.
