Every Maine Street Coons Kitten is Placed with Care

Our placement process is designed to ensure every kitten is matched with the family where they will thrive—and every family is matched with the companion they’ve been dreaming of.

Step 1: Complete Our Application

let's get to know one another

Begin by completing our online application, where you’ll tell us about your family, lifestyle, other pets, and what you’re hoping to find in a Maine Coon companion.  If we believe Maine Street Coons may be the right fit for your family, we’ll schedule a personalized telephone conversation. This gives us the opportunity to get to know one another, answer questions, and ensure our philosophies and expectations are aligned.

Step 2: Join Our Approved Families List

your journey officially begins

Families we believe are an excellent fit for our program are invited to join our Approved Families List. As future litters develop, we thoughtfully match kittens with families based on temperament, lifestyle, and compatibility. Our average wait is approximately four to eight months, although timing varies based on litter plans, nature, and your preferences.

Step 3: Reserve Your Kitten

congratulations, your search is over

As each litter grows, we carefully evaluate every kitten’s temperament, confidence, energy level, and personality. Around 9–10 weeks of age, we begin thoughtfully matching kittens with families on our Approved Families List. When we believe we’ve found the right match, we’ll reach out to introduce you to your future kitten.

Once you’ve met your matched kitten and decide to move forward, your signed Kitten Agreement and $1,000 non-refundable holding fee are due by 10:00 a.m. the following business day. This allows us to discontinue matching your kitten with other families and continue the matching process thoughtfully for those still awaiting their perfect companion.

You’ll then receive confirmation of your kitten’s anticipated homecoming date and appointment time, along with guidance to help you prepare for your new family member. At that point, our focus shifts to preparing both you and your kitten for homecoming.

Step 4: Prepare for Homecoming

now the excitement really begins

Your kitten will remain with us until approximately 14 weeks of age, allowing valuable time with their mother, littermates, and our family. These additional weeks support healthy social development, build confidence, reinforce good manners, and help ensure your kitten is fully prepared for a successful transition into your home.

During these final weeks, our updates become even more personal. You’ll continue receiving photos, videos, and health status reports following each veterinary visit, allowing you to watch your kitten grow while staying informed every step of the way.

We’ll also begin preparing your kitten’s go-home package with thoughtfully selected essentials to help make the transition as smooth as possible. Your package includes familiar food, premium grooming tools, kitten shampoo, favorite toys, a familiar-scented lap quilt, and a personalized folder containing your kitten’s veterinary records, health information, and important care instructions.

By the time your kitten comes home, you’ll know far more than their name or color—you’ll already know their personality, their routines, and the journey that brought them to your family.

Step 5: Homecoming Day

The day you’ve been waiting for has finally arrived

We’ll welcome you to our home for your scheduled pickup appointment, where we’ll review your kitten’s records, answer any final questions, and ensure you feel confident before heading home together.

To help make Homecoming Day as calm and enjoyable as possible, we recommend:

  • Bringing a secure carrier with a soft blanket or towel.
  • Limiting the number of people attending your appointment whenever possible. While we understand children are excited, a quieter environment allows us to focus on your kitten’s transition and gives us time to answer your questions without distraction.
  • Allowing approximately 45–60 minutes for your appointment.
  • Planning to travel directly home so your kitten can begin settling into their new environment.
  • Having a quiet room prepared at home where your kitten can adjust at their own pace.

Before you leave, we’ll review your kitten’s veterinary records, feeding schedule, grooming routine, and answer any remaining questions.

Then comes our favorite part…Watching one of our babies begin the next chapter of their story with the family we’ve chosen just for them. Welcome to the Maine Street Coons family.
