Discover the maine street coons difference

Our Adoption Process

We believe in taking our time and creating the perfect match for both you and your new furry family member. Our hands-on, high-touch approach is designed to ensure the needs and personalities of your Maine Coon kitten and your human family are thoughtfully considered.

Wait Times and List Management:

  • Our kittens are always in demand, so joining our wait list is the only way to bring one home.
  • Average wait times are six to nine months; but vary based on nature's plans.
  • Wait list spots are limited; when the list starts to get too long, we temporarily close it.
  • Adopters who are flexible and open-minded about gender and color will have the shortest wait times

How to Join the Wait List:

  • Complete our online application
  • Participate in a no-obligation Discovery Call
  • Claim your spot on our wait list, if approved

While You Wait

  • Receive personalized updates on changes in wait list status and your progress in line.
  • Get informed when we have a tentative litter match for you,  the expected due date range , and approximate kitten count.

Once Your Kitten Arrives in the Nursery

  • Get notified when the litter is born; learn how many kittens  arrived, their genders, and colors.
  • Receive weekly group photos and updates as kittens develop from one to nine weeks.
  • Get to know every kitten through individual introductions and personality assessments.
  • Receive litter health updates and short videos after each trip to the veterinarian.
  • Keep an open mind but let us know where your heart is drawn as the weeks go by.

Match Day & the Reservation Process

We match kittens with their forever families when they are nine weeks old, on the Saturday following their second vet visit, in this order:

  • We pick first, this is essential to maintain our bloodlines.
  • Adopters of sibling pairs are matched with their kittens next.
  • Existing Maine Street Coons' owners adopting another kitten are matched after that.
  • We work down the rest of the wait list in the order that individuals joined.

We contact each adopter via text to share our personalized recommendation, which takes into account the kitten's temperament and our intuition about overall chemistry.

  • We are happy to hop on a call to discuss any questions you might have and/or to do a video call to allow you to see your kitten in action.
  • You have 24 hours from the time we send the text to accept or decline your match.
  • You're not obligated to accept the kitten offered; you can pass on a kitten that is offered to you one time and still remain at the top of the wait list.

When you verbally commit to a kitten, we will send you a reservation agreement the same day.

  • You have 24-hours from receipt to return the signed agreement and pay the non-refundable, non-transferrable $1,000 holding fee.
  • The reservation agreement will specify the planned pick-up date.  Pick-ups are typically scheduled for Saturdays when the kittens are 13 - 14 weeks old.  Let us know if you need to make alternate arrangements.
  • Please let us know if you prefer a morning or afternoon pick-up appointment. Plan to be here for a full 45-minutes.
  • Be sure to respond timely! If you do not return the signed agreement and holding fee within 24 hours, we may move on to the next person on the wait list.

Preparing for Pick-Up Day

  • Once we receive your signed agreement and holding fee, we'll send you a congratulatory email  with all the information you need to prepare for a seamless homecoming, including an exact date and time for pickup.
  • Be sure to go ahead and make an appointment for your kitten's mandatory wellness visit with your veterinarian to occur within 72-hours of pickup. Many practices need several weeks notice to accommodate new patient appointments!
  • Expect a separate email from Royal Canin with our food recommendations and a coupon for 35% off your first purchase.
  • Receive individual photos and video updates via text on a more frequent basis to keep you connected as your kitten grows.
  • Let us know when you settle on a name! We like kittens to become familiar with their new names before going home, whenever possible.
  • Feel free to reach out with questions at any time! We are here to make this experience seamless and stress-free.

Pick-Up Day

  • Twenty-four hours prior to pickup, activate your no-cost Trupanion policy using the offer code we've provided.
  • Please be on time for your appointment. We have a lot to cover in 45 minutes.
  • Be sure to bring your kitten's carrier for a smooth go-home experience.
  • If you decide to bring children, please bring another adult to supervise while we go over important details.
  • Purchase agreements are signed and balances are paid in full at the time of pickup.
