Our Approach to Breeding High Quality Maine Coon Kittens

Welcome to Maine Street Coons!

Nestled in the beautiful rolling foothills of the Appalachian mountains, just southeast of Birmingham, Alabama, you'll find the small-scale, high-quality Maine Coon preservation breeding program you and your new furry companion deserve. If you value ethics, health, quality, knowledge, friendliness, and the extensive socialization of quality Maine Coon kittens, then you will love how we do things here at Maine Street.

Our Mission

Excellent health is the cornerstone of our breeding program. At Maine Street Coons, every breeding cat undergoes extensive genetic and medical screening to help ensure we are producing robust Maine Coon kittens with the best chances for a long and healthy life.

Our cats are evaluated through comprehensive DNA testing, annual echocardiograms, HD X-ray screening, blood work, FeLV/FIV testing, fecal and PCR screening, and ongoing veterinary oversight by a multidisciplinary team of licensed veterinarians.

Once born, our kittens receive comprehensive veterinary care at 6, 9 and 12 weeks of age. All vaccines are administered by our veterinary team.

Because we are deeply committed to the health of every kitten we produce, we proudly offer a five-year genetic health guarantee designed with families in mind.

Exceptional temperament is one of the defining hallmarks of a well-bred Maine Coon — and it is something we prioritize relentlessly at Maine Street Coons. Every parent cat in our program is carefully selected not only for health and beauty, but for an affectionate, confident, people-oriented personality.

From birth, our kittens are raised with constant love, handling, and positive exposure to everyday life. They are socialized with people, animals, household activity, visitors, car rides, nails trims, bathing and blow drying, and all sorts of other new experiences to help them grow into confident, outgoing companions.

As a result, Maine Street Coons kittens are known for their gentle nature, intelligence, adaptability, and extraordinary affection for their families. Every kitten also receives an individualized temperament assessment to help ensure the best possible match with their forever home.

Beautifully Balanced. Never Exaggerated. Exactly as the Maine Coon Was Meant to Be.

In the cat world, “type” refers to how closely a cat conforms to the written breed standard — the blueprint for what a true Maine Coon should look like. At Maine Street Coons, preserving authentic American Maine Coon type is one of our greatest passions.

A well-bred Maine Coon should possess a balanced square muzzle, strong chin, expressive eyes, large tufted ears with beautiful lynx tips, substantial boning, a long rectangular body, and a flowing shaggy coat with a magnificent tail. The overall impression should be naturally wild, powerful, and beautifully balanced — never exaggerated.

We carefully select breeding cats that exemplify the Maine Coon breed standard while avoiding extreme or incorrect features such as overly long ears, weak chins, narrow muzzles, improper profiles, fragile boning, or disproportionate structure. Our goal is to preserve the timeless beauty, health, and functionality of this remarkable American breed for generations to come.

At Maine Street Coons we are committed to accountability and transparency.

Our Partnership with OFA

The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals provides specialty veterinary reviews of medical diagnostics and imaging to verify the health of Maine Street Coons breeding cats' hips and hearts. Our veterinarians and veterinary cardiologists send hip x-rays and echocardiograms to OFA for their specialists to perform secondary screening for any HCM or hip dysplasia-related issues.

This has been one of the best experiences. Thank you for breeding such a great companion. Look forward to years with this guy."
